About Home For Years

Home For Years is an independent cost-research project about one decision: whether an older person can keep living in their own house, and what the changes to make that possible actually cost.

What we publish

Stairlifts, home elevators, walk-in tubs, ramps, ceiling lifts, grab bars, bathroom conversions — priced. Alongside them, the funding: what Medicare will and will not pay for, how state Medicaid waivers work, what the VA's housing grants cover, and when a medical expense becomes a tax deduction.

Most pages answer three questions: what it costs, what the quote leaves out, and who else can pay.

Who writes it

Home For Years Editorial Team. We work from government publications, manufacturer and dealer price lists, and published cost surveys. We are not contractors, we are not clinicians, and we do not claim to have installed anything we describe.

How we make money

Two ways, both disclosed on the pages where they apply.

Display advertising. Ads appear on article pages and are sold by a third-party network. We do not choose which advertisers appear.

Referral links. When a page links to a dealer, a quote service or a product, that link may be a paid referral. If you use it, we may receive a commission at no extra cost to you. Pages with referral links say so.

Neither arrangement changes a number on this site. If a dealer pays a referral fee, that does not make them cheaper in our tables, and we do not rank companies by what they pay us.

What we do not do

We do not sell stairlifts, elevators or bath products. We do not take payment for coverage, for a ranking, or for a favourable review. No manufacturer has ever paid for an article here.

Independence

This site is not affiliated with any manufacturer, dealer, trade association, government agency or advocacy organisation named in its articles.

Corrections

If a number is wrong, we want to fix it rather than defend it. Write to corrections@homeforyears.com with the page and the figure. We correct the page and note the date.

Accessibility

This site is built to be readable by the people it is written for: 18px base text, high contrast throughout, keyboard navigation, a skip link, and print styles for the pages families take to a dealer appointment. If something on this site is hard to use, tell us and we will fix it.
